Charles Henry Terrell Academy is an independent private day school devoted to serving the educational needs of beautiful, bright and vibrant students with learning differences such as executive function difficulties and attention issues. Our program is designed for students who process information differently that are expected in a conventional classroom. C.H. Terrell Academy is accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission, Inc. (GAC).
PHILOSOPHY
Terrell Academy is concerned with meeting the spiritual, intellectual, physical, and socio-emotional needs of each student. These needs must be satisfied so that the student may live as a free responsible person in Christ. Methods of instruction are adjusted for individual differences and the various stages of growth development. We recognize that certain conditions exist in every child. When these conditions, such as individual differences, readiness, motivation, purpose, and interest are met, the student can learn. Each student at Terrell Academy is treated with respect and Christian love. Terrell Academy’s program is geared to incorporate activities relevant to his or her individual needs.
MISSION
At C.H. Terrell Academy, we offer a unique educational opportunity. It is our belief that all children can learn once their curriculum and environmental needs are met. At C. H. Terrell Academy, we meet those needs by providing a warm and nurturing environment with no more than ten students in our classes. The curriculum is flexible to meet the needs of each student. This unique setting ensures maximum academic growth and guarantees that children of all abilities receive a personalized education.

ESTABLISHED AUGUST 1982 -
In the den of her home located in Augusta, Georgia—Rebecca Terrell Dent began a one-room schoolhouse with money she received from her retirement teaching public school in Richmond/Columbia County Georgia.
After years of observing children not getting the attention they deserved, Rebecca decided to open her own school. With her retirement money, she purchased a desk to place in her den of her home and began class. Being inspired by Marva Collins of Chicago, Illinois, Mrs. Dent began Southside Preparatory School.
Soon, Rebecca’s three-bedroom home grew into a five-room schoolhouse. She and her family moved and she set out to find a building to educate more children. This new site was located on Milledgeville Road. Mrs. Dent educated children in this school’s house for over 12 years. She changed the school’s name from Southside Preparatory to Terrell Visitation Academy after her namesake. Over the years, Terrell has educated thousands of children throughout the CSRA in the heart of downtown Augusta. C.H. Terrell Academy is also the headquarters of the James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils.
In recognition of her educational skills, she has received awards from the U.S. Department of Education and other federal agencies. Mrs. Dent is published in Who’s Who in American Educators and awarded the Community Citizens Award by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She has also received the Tom Joyner Educator of the Year Award. Mrs. Dent is also the Co-Coordinator of a Music Education program created by the daughter of Mrs. Dent for the James Brown Children Foundation (J.A.M.P James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils) and The Tom Joyner Foundation. Students have performed and established connections with musical and political icons throughout the United States such as Aretha Franklin, Prince, Bootsy Collins, Sharon Jones, Rep. John Lewis, Def Leopard, Melba Moore, Al Sharpton, Van Jones, Luke Bryant, Kirk Franklin, Kurtis Blow, and Patricia Lacy. Mrs. Dent is the mother of two girls and the grandmother of two. They all reside in Augusta, GA.

LETTER FROM THE FOUNDER
When I opened C.H. Terrell Academy in 1982 I dreamed of offering young minds education in the tradition through prayer, academics and community involvement. I knew children needed and desired the challenge of an excellent academic schedule accompanied by a commitment to serve others outside of the classroom in today's society.
The academic programs in our educational village have taught students to think critically as they prepare not only for college but for adulthood. C.H.T.A develops the entire student body to involve in not only academic success, but receive an array of spiritual development opportunities. Fine art programs are a realistic commitment to be socially aware and give back to their communities at all times.
Charles Henry Terrell Academy represents a diverse population, bringing individual talents to our educational village. C.H.T.A is a place to grow--- intellectually, spiritually, socially, emotionally, and physically. I invite you to join us and experience what it is to explore the world and excel with talents and opportunities your child has been given.
We hope your visit to our website will be enjoyable and informative. Please call to make an appointment to visit our campus. C.H. Terrell Academy is a unique opportunity for students throughout the CSRA.

LETTER FROM THE ADMINISTRATOR
Welcome to Charles Henry Terrell Academy! Thank you for getting on on the Good Foot and reviewing our website. You have taken an important first step in your journey to find the perfect fit for your child's successful educational experience. We feel certain that once you have learned about us, you will want to take part in our educational village.
From the onset of 1982, C.H.T.A has preserved important traditions while creating programs that embrace the future of our students. As we began building on the philosophies of Marva Collins and Booker T. Washington, we moved our campus three times and finally relocated to our present setting. Though there may have been many different configurations of the old C.H. Terrell Academy, one quality has never changed --- academic excellence. Our students become active learners --- they are curious --they think --- they question. I am proud to say that the best way to distinguish the old C.H. Terrell Academy students is by their strong passion for learning to become productive citizens of today's society.
C.H.T.A provides numerous academic opportunities and a varied curriculum from early childhood through high school. Our location, facility and fine art programs all contribute to our well-rounded and rich academic village. We have always made a commitment to embracing the future by continually modifying our strategic thinking and planning. We know that it is critically important to maintain a strong academic village. I invite you to contact us to schedule an appointment. We will be delighted to welcome you to our Educational Village.

AWARDS/ACCOMPLISHMENTS/PUBLICATIONS
WHY IS THE FUND IMPORTANT?
The Fund is the major giving program, connecting the gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating each student. Currency from this fund supports the school’s operating budget where the needs are greatest and can also help the Academy quickly to unforeseen circumstances.
WHY NOT JUST INCREASE TUITION?
Increasing tuition would result in the loss of students whose families could not afford the increase. A decrease in enrollment would lead to cuts in both educational programs and staff. The Academy encourages parents to make tax-deductible gifts to keep tuition affordable while maintaining an outstanding quality of education for every child in our educational village.
I CAN'T AFFORD MUCH. DO SMALL GIFTS FROM PARENTS REALLY MAKES AN IMPACT?
YES! Every gift makes a difference. Small gifts impact and inspire larger gifts. Every contribution, no matter how small, counts. You have until the last day of school to make a payment.
